The African Paradise flycatcher is synonymous with Paradyskloof.

We were fortunate enough to follow the behaviour of a breeding pair in the Wag ‘n Bietjie tree on the stoep of Berglikkewaan.

We followed the construction of  the tiny little cup nest from the very beginning.

Two eggs hardly the size of peas were laid and were cared for like no other.

Initially soft food was offered followed by bits of bigger and  harder food.

Soon before long the careful rearing process was over and the nest was empty.

It was a precious experience and we can’t wait to see and hear our feathered friends again next summer on the stoep.
